Short Poems on Courage
I do not pray for a safe road.
I pray for infinitely more courage
 		    Than I now have.
– Sri Chinmoy (1)
To speak ill of the world
 			  Needs courage,
 			  But fortunately or unfortunately
 		    Everybody has that courage.
To love the world
 			  As one’s own,
 			  Very own,
 			  Needs courage.
Unfortunately, most of us are wanting
 			  In that courage.
The courage of the heart,
 			  The courage of the soul
 			  We badly need,
 			  And not the courage
 			  Of the unruly,
 			  Aggressive,
 			  Impure,
 			  Demanding vital.

 		    The animal in me
 		    Showed the animal courage
 		    By fighting and strangling.
The human in me
   Showed the human courage
   By snubbing and belittling.
The divine in me
   Shows the divine courage
   In accepting and loving.
The Supreme in me
   Shows the supreme courage
   In transforming, widening, deepening
   And finally transcending.
