Sri Chinmoy’s Heart Garden.

Sri Chinmoy’s heart garden is a collection of short aphorisms grouped into different themes such as; happiness, inspiration and meditation. They are written by spiritual teacher, Sri Chinmoy; who is a noted poet and author of over 1,500 books.

Throughout this selection of poems, an underlying message is the nature of real happiness and satisfaction. The author offers a recurring message that we can easily access our inner source of happiness, if we try.

Happiness is our Birthright,
We just have to believe it.

Happiness
Is our heart’s perpetual journey,
And not a remote destination.

Sri Chinmoy suggests that the secret of happiness is a life free from the critical judgement of the mind. When we live in the heart we realise our oneness with others. It is a philosophy based on the ancient yoga ideal of the all pervading unity of creation; when there is oneness there cannot be hate and division

Our differences disappear
The moment we come to realise
That all hearts are one.

It is this harmony that can bring us happiness.

If you develop harmony with all,
Then yours will be a heart
Totally free from sorrow.

The aphorisms of Sri Chinmoy offer an optimistic and powerful reminder of our inner capacities. At the same time they seem to gently nudge and encourage the reader to make a choice between the mind and the heart; it is a choice between peace and happiness and the alternatives of restlessness and depression.

“You are not happy
And you will never be happy
Because you do not lose yourself
Enough to find yourself,
I mean your true self.

The aphorisms inspire us because they are a reminder that we can be in control of our destiny. To access our inner peace we need to make our own determined efforts. It is our own meditations and selfless-service, which will bring about our transformation.

Meditation is by far
The best encouragement
For a beautiful
And soulful thought.

The poems embody great simplicity and yet encapsulate important ideas that can make a real difference to our state of mind. There simplicity also enables the reader to memorise and make active use of their wisdom throughout the day.
